We exist to support and promote the art of bonsai within New Zealand.

Our association began in 1991, with representatives from both the North and South Islands of New Zealand. For almost 30 years, we have fostered curiosity, creativity, and friendship around a common passion—the art of bonsai.

While there are individual clubs up and down the country, we try to come together at least once a year for a national bonsai convention and encourage our members to continue to practice and hone their craft.

Find A Local Club

From Auckland to Gore, we have clubs all over the country that meet regularly to collectively learn about bonsai.

We always recommend beginners find their local club to join; there are years of wisdom and knowledge within them waiting for you!

A bonsai is not you working on the tree;
you have to have the tree work on you.

Take your bonsai learning further with a NZBA membership.

New Zealand Bonsai Association members have access to a fantastic range of benefits, including joining a welcoming community of bonsai practitioners around the country, access to workshops with national and international demonstrators at our national conventions, a quarterly magazine delivered their door and much more.

There’s a growing wave of interest and enthusiasm, with new members bringing fresh ideas to the club scene—the future looks bright for NZ bonsai.
